Low Credit Limit

I already have a Discover IT card with a 30k limit. But we want to finance a large project with the 14 months no interest. We have a 12% utilization rate, small debt to income and a 780 credit score. Got a 3k limit right after Chase gave us 10k. Discover used to be really good but their rewards are lagging behind. They are both going to be cut up after this project is up and be swapped out with USAA 2.5% (or Citi Double Cash if you can't get USAA) and Amex.

With the end of year bonus you get 2% cash back on every purchase plus 2% on dining and gasoline. Can't beat that with 0 annual fees

Discover has a great website.  Americans answer the phone if you call them.  The Discover deals is fun to use and usually has some pretty good deals. Their website is close to the best compared to the other guys and I like their mobile app - though I wish they would hurry up and update it so it has the touch login like the other cc aps.  The rotating categories are a little annoying and there are caps - usually $1500 in purchases per quarter.  Its kind of like musical chairs and if your lucky and need to make a large purchase in a current category its good but most of the time its not what you needed.  You can definitely earn more rewards/cash back with other cards but Discover makes up for it with the discover deals (i.e. shop at samsclub and get 5% cash back).  They also have good customer service and a great website.

After receiving the card design I wanted, 2 months later it was changed without my input.  I cannot get the design I enjoyed for 2 months!  There is nothing I can do!  Terrible!

How To Apply For A Credit Card

Credit card applications are straightforward, but you'll need to meet some minimum financial requirements to get approved for the best credit card offers. Learn how to apply for a credit online and what to expect after you click submit.

  • Knowing your credit score and what's on your credit report can help you determine what products to apply for. If you have fair credit, for example, you may not want to apply for a card that clearly states that only applicants with excellent credit will be approved.
  • If you don't have good credit, you may find it difficult to get approved for a card with a large sign-up bonus and a lucrative reward structure. Each credit card application ends up on your credit report, so the Nerds recommend using our credit cards comparison tool to find a card that fits your credit profile before applying.
  • If the card allows balance transfers, you may request to have balances transferred from other credit card accounts to the new card.
  • To apply for a credit card in the US, you’ll need a valid Social Security number and a positive credit history. The best rewards credit cards may require at least three to five years of good credit history, and some more than seven.
